Too Small Size of Air Supply Line to the Air Diaphragm Pump

It is not uncommon to use too small air supply line when installing an Air Operated Diaphragm pump.

Overlooking restrictions installed along the line, which reduce volume of the flowing air is another frequent mistake.

It happens, that diameter of the airline directly connected to the pump is correct. However, on the length of the line are located elements which reduce the amount of flowing air.

Using an air supply line which is too small or having any obstacles (connectors for example) reducing the volume of the air needed by the pump to operate well, will make pump to work slowly, or stall it.

Standard Air Diaphragm pumps operates on a 1-to-1 ratio, meaning the pressure of the inlet air feeding the pump is directly related to the fluid pressure at the pump’s outlet. The volume of the air behind the diaphragm must correspond to the volume of the fluid.

Please always check the operating manual for the correct size of air supply. In case of reported low pump efficiency, please always check:

•  Diameter of the air supply line
•  Possible restrictions on the air line which may reduce air volume delivered to the pump
•  Number of pneumatic tools powered from the same compressor
•  Diameter of the main air line from compressor. Any possible restrictions on this line
