1. Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps Can Run Dry
Because there are no close fittings, turnings or sliding parts, a Diaphragm Pump can run dry without damage for extended periods of time. However, is not recommended to dry run constantly or for long periods, due to unproductive energy consumption and consumption diaphragm (also other parts) stroke life. Other than unnecessary costs, there is no danger posed to the pump.
2. Self-Priming Ability
During start-up, an Air Double Diaphragm Pump generate its own suction pressure and can self-prime without the use of special equipment or special start-up procedures. Air Diaphragm Pump is also able to achieve a high level of both Wet and Dry suction lift. AODD Pumps have some of the strongest lift capabilities of any kind of pump made.
3.Pump Safely Operate at Deadhead Condition
The discharge line may be closed fully at any time and repeatedly without damage or wear to the Diaphragm Pump. There will be no power consumption and no temperature increase. The Diaphragm Pump will simply stop. Discharge pressure cannot exceed air pressure, so there is no need for a pressure relief system.
4. Pump Can Handle a Huge Variety of Chemicals
Diaphragm Pumps can transfer a huge range of chemicals, including most types of acids, alkalis, solvents, petrochemicals, etc. The versatility of materials allows selecting material for all values on pH scale.
5. Can Handle a Wide Range of Temperatures
Typically, AODD Pumps can work in the range of temperatures from -40°C to 176°C. Pumps in special configurations can be also used in temperature conditions outside this range.
6. Viscous and Fibrous Fluids Can be Pumped
Diaphragm Pumps produce a relatively high discharge pressure and are able to move viscous fluids like glues, oils, syrups, liquid resins, inks, glues, paints, pastes, etc. Large size AODD Pumps in positive feed (flooded) suction can transfer fluids with a viscosity up to 50.000 cP. The specific design of AODD Pump type of positive displacement pump enables pumping fibrous fluids.
7. Can handle Abrasive Fluids with a High Solids Content
Diaphragm Pump has no internal seals, rubbing, or rotating surfaces, so abrasive liquids with a high solid percentage and large size of solids can be pumped easily. It can handle liquids that are not perfectly filtered – liquids with a residue of solid particles such as small stones, animal bones, crystals, sand, or slurries. Large-sized solids will pass just through the pump. Many types of liquid granulate can be pumped. Inks, paints, polish, caulking compounds can be pumped with ease.
8. Can Transfer Large Size Solids
Standard YTS AODD pumps allow passage of solids with a maximum size of 10mm. Special pumps, flap valve pumps allow the transfer of hard solids like stones or metal nuts size up to 30mm. Soft particles (leaves, poultry waste, fish waste, etc.) can have a maximum size up to 50mm.
9. AODD Pump Can Transfer Certain Powders
Standard Diaphragm Pump can be easily modified to the Powder Diaphragm Pump. YTS Powder Diaphragm Pumps are fitted with an externally mounted Air Induction System. This system is designed to Fluidize (Aerate) the powder. Once in a Fluidized State, the powder will act like a liquid and can be easily transferred from the pump by a hose to a hopper or to process equipment. Air fluidization is controlled by individual Air Valves situated on each of the incoming compressed air lines. To operate correctly, the powder must be completely dry, fine‐grained, free-flowing, and low bulk density. Powders that can’t be fluidized, can’t be transferred. Powder Diaphragm Pump can transfer many types of powders. It can effectively replace all types of Powder Augers, Mechanical Conveyors, Screw Feeders, and Pneumatic Conveying Systems.
10. Nitrogen or Natural Gas Can be Used to Power the Pump
Nitrogen or Natural Gas can be used instead of compressed air. It is only necessary to ensure adequate hydration of all o-rings and seals as Nitrogen and Natural Gas have drying properties.
11. Diaphragm Pump Pumping Efficiency Remain Constant
Diaphragm Pump doesn’t have any fitting parts, rotors, gears, or vanes exposed to the liquid, and so do not wear out over time that normally leads to a gradual decline in pumping performance.
12. High Start-Stop Efficiency
AODD Pump, when used in the constant start-stop application, offers a higher level of pumping efficiency in comparison to the same sized electrical type of pump.
13. Not Overheat
Diaphragm Pump has no electric motor and is cooled naturally during operation by the supply of Compressed Air, Natural Gas or Nitrogen.
14. AODD Pump Doesn’t Use Eelectricity. It is Very Safe
Diaphragm Pump does not require the use of electricity, therefore it can safely work in dangerous locations, such as underground mines, gas and oil offshore platforms, rafineries, etc.
15. Simply Controlled Variable Flow Rate and Head Pressures
By adjusting either the air inlet pressure or opening or closing the discharge valve it is possible to operate the pump anywhere between 0,03 liters per minute to full capacity. The discharge pressure is also changed according to air pressure (air pressure = fluid discharge pressure).
16. Shear Sensitivity
Due to the gentle nature of the operation, Diaphragm Pump is one of the best choices for shear sensitive fluids like wine, milk, ink, or personal care products. They are a perfect choice for pumping reactive fluids such as detergents, shampoo, or UV ink.
17. High-Pressure Capability
Modified Diaphragm Pump with a 2:1 pump air compress ratio is capable of producing close to 17 bar discharge pressure. AODD High Pressure Pumps are used in installations where the pump must work against very high back pressure. 2:1 High Pressure Diaphragm Pumps are excellent feed pumps for filter press installations.
18. Pump Can Work Fully Submerged
Diaphragm Pump can be fully submersed in the liquid being pumped as long as the pump is chemically compatible. Submerged AODD pump must have an extra air hose attached to the exhaust port. This extra hose from the exhaust port must end above the liquid level.
19. Can be Used for Clean Processes
Diaphragm Pumps manufactured from high-grade virgin PTFE are used for transfer highly aggressive fluids in laboratory conditions or inside Clean Rooms. Pumps are used in all industries, in which maintaining the high purity of manufacturing processes is mandatory.
20. Explosion Proof. ATEX Certification
Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump use compressed air to operate and does not require electricity or any other flammable fuel. The pump can be fully earthed. AODD pump can be used safely to pump all types of flammable fluids or used in explosive environments (ATEX zones).
21. There is no Motor, Couplings, and Seal
There is no motor, couplings, and seal that eliminates the majority of leaks. This has a huge impact on the reduction of maintenance costs of Diaphragm Pump.
22. AODD Pump Can Obtain a Variety of Certificates
AODD pumps can obtain certificates to meet the needs of users from many industries. The most common certificates are: ATEX, EHEDG, FDA, 3A, UL, ISO, maritime, for underground operations.
23. Easy to Install and Operate
By simply connecting the air supply line and two fluid lines Diaphragm Pump is ready to work. It is not necessary to mount or fix the pump in place. There are no complex controls, fittings, or motors to install and operate. The pump can be started and stop with either an air valve or air regulator, or even a liquid valve.

There are no complex controls, fittings, or motors to install and operate. The pump can be started and stop with either an air valve or air regulator, or even a liquid valve.
25.Pump is Fully Portable
Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pumps are compact, lightweight and fully portable. They can be operated in almost any work site or environment.
26. Pump is Versatile
Customers can use one Diaphragm Pump in many applications for a variety of fluids if only the pump’s materials are chemically compatible with those fluids.
27. Can be Used as a Dosing Pump
AODD pumps are used in many sectors as dosing pumps. Dosing chemicals – in wastewater applications, water purifying applications, in CIP installations and COP stations, in ink and paint dispensing machines, for dosing flavors, etc. Diaphragm pumps with mounted solenoid valve can be operated by PLC or can be directly integrated with factory software.
28. Inexpensive
Compared to other types of pumps with similar performance, Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pumps are often significantly less expensive to purchase. Not only the low initial purchase cost of the pump itself but also the lower cost of installation of a Diaphragm Pump speaks in favor of this type of pump. It is easy and inexpensive to operate and maintain those pumps. The cost of owning a Diaphragm Pump is significantly lower than the cost of owning an electrically, gas, or fuel-driven pump. Diaphragm Pump use only air. There is no motor with wear components such as impeller and mechanical seals. And there is no need for extra, expensive pump/motor protection for the hazardous area (ATEX). The cost calculation alone may be a decisive argument in favor of choosing a Diaphragm Pump out of many other types of pumps.
